I applied to SMASH as a curious, motivated girl drawn to the world of computer science; I had the amazing opportunity to attend after being accepted off the waitlist. What I found at SMASH was not just access to opportunity, but a community that valued excellence, equity, and exploration through joy. At SMASH, I pitched and won the regional competition two years in a row. First with a website helping immigrant families navigate the Boston Public School system, and then with a visual-AI composting tool designed for college students without access to sustainable waste options. These projects shaped my path and defined my core values of inclusivity, accessibility, and sustainability. SMASH Admit connected me to my first internship at Pratt & Whitney, where I researched sustainable aviation infrastructure and fuel. That spark turned into a flame: today, I’m back at Pratt & Whitney, working in software verification for engine control and diagnostic systems. At Brown University, I continue to embed SMASH’s values into everything I do. I engineered the first-ever digital dashboard for our Formula Racing team, opening up new ways to analyze and optimize performance. I serve as President of Women Build @ Brown, where we create space for non-male students to build, experiment, and lead in our campus makerspace. I received a scholarship through SMASH, which led me to apply to schools I knew my family otherwise wouldn't be able to afford. However, SMASH didn’t just help me afford college: it showed me how to center joy, purpose, and community in my pursuit of technical excellence. Every day, I carry that with me: building boldly, lifting others up, and having fun while doing it.
