Being able to discover and grow in my love of theater at OSA allowed me to come into my confidence and be able to showcase myself in the different spaces. I’ve occupied since graduating. I created lifelong friends at OSA, and I’ve crossed paths with peers in the entertainment industry. I love rooting for my OSA community when I see them on stage, on screen, or on the airwaves.
It’s the place that molded me. My history, my passions, my love for art and community all stemmed from being from Oakland. Oakland consists of all these tight-knit communities, so many circles that cross or walk parallel to each other. The Oakland I know is special. The Bay Area is special as well, but Oakland is a gem.
The rallies, the all-school musicals, going to all the departments performances and showcases. You would just love seeing what the people you go to classes with can do, and also you can have fun performing with them as well.
Danny Duncan. He was my first theater teacher, and he was one of the greats. He gave us structure, history and discipline. Danny Duncan was a talent, and an incredible instructor and director. He wanted greatness from you, no less. Because he taught us how difficult the real world would be, and how the industry is incredibly cutthroat and sometimes cruel. But you had to persist and be great. Danny Duncan was a talent and a force, so fortunate to learn from him.
