What have you been doing post OSA?

Currently, I'm studying at Berklee College of Music for Media Scoring and Composition. Aside from scoring for commercials, tv, and other forms of media, I do lots of personal composition work in which I'd create personal concerts to premiere my art. These exhibitions aren't entirely performances as they're much more infused with other forms of art, something I incorporated from my time at OSA. Many of my art exhibitions

Are there any career highlights that you'd like us to share and celebrate?

During my studies here in Berklee, I've managed to lead extraordinary ensembles premiering my own music as well as scoring award winning short films

How did attending OSA impact your life and career?

OSA exposed me lots of forms of art but more importantly how important we need art in our communities. It not only provides a creative outlet for one another but it creates culture and belonging as artists alike can create and fabricate wonderful stories. More importantly, the education provided by the faculty of OSA is something that no other school can offer. It's truly a wonderful gift since many of the students are receiving college level education at a high school level and has certainly paved the way for my journey here at Berklee.

What does being from Oakland (or the greater Bay Area) mean to you?

Truthfully, I have an okay experience with the Bay. Now that I'm in college and have traveled many places, the Bay is certainly unique as it's where I spent most of my life! During my time there I had lots of friends from many different backgrounds and it's something I'm truly thankful for! Being from the Bay meant that I grew up with lots of music and art and even though I didn't appreciate it at the time, OSA embodies lots of the culture of the Bay Area.

What is your fondest memory of being a student at OSA?

One of my favorite things about OSA was having friends from different emphasis! During our lunch breaks, it was refreshing to be able to talk to them about what they do in the afternoons at school but more importantly, seeing their work and passion in their exhibitions. It was extremely enlightening as one morning, you'll be sitting next to someone in Math Class and later that week, you'll see or hear work / art that embodies something you've never known about that person!

Please share which teacher/class at OSA had the greatest impact on you and why:

Mr. Bonacum. Aside from his Geometry class, I felt particularly drawn to Mr. Bonacum as he always seemed to handle situations well under stress. There was a time during the pandemic in which he shared about his deployment as a navy seal I believe, and it touched me as he understands the situations we're all in and provided reassurance that things will be alright. He was also a big fan of meditation and his lifestyle and work life balance was very noticeable as he was always positive! Another teacher that really impacted me was Mr. Chazaro. It was great being able to have him as my Sophomore English Teacher. He felt like a friend and would show up to our performances and such and he was very passionate about the arts just as the students are!
