What have you been doing post OSA?

I am currently a senior at Cal Poly Humboldt (Humboldt State) majoring in Liberal Studies, Elementary Education! When I’m in the Bay, I substitute at a preschool in Berkeley. In Humboldt, I work on the dept. of Ed’s DHSI Grant as a student assistant and Substitute K-5!

Are there any career highlights that you'd like us to share and celebrate?

I’ll be graduating in 2024 with a Bachelor’s in Elementary education and will return to the Bay Area to complete my credentials!

How did attending OSA impact your life and career?

Having my passion for writing be encouraged and cared for allowed me to explore myself and the way I experience the world around me. Literary made me value not only my voice but the voice of others, and I find myself as a teacher emphasizing that daily and encouraging students to be curious about themselves and the world.

What does being from Oakland (or the greater Bay Area) mean to you?

It means being an embodiment of culture, community, and bringing that with me everywhere I go.

What is your fondest memory of being a student at OSA?

Being able to grow and make art with the same people for YEARS was dope, now seeing everything we’ve all accomplished is amazing and I often miss being in that space. True memory- any Friday in Literary

Please share which teacher/class at OSA had the greatest impact on you and why:

In retrospect I genuinely loved most of my teachers, Karnes will always have a huge place in my heart. When I came to literary I was so insecure about my writing and who I was as a writer. By my senior year Karnes instilled the greatest confidence and knowledge within me that I still carry to this day!
